The
world ‘KAYMAKLI’ means cream made of milk. This was a dried
cream of milk, in the last thirty years the ladies of the town, used
to make it and offer it
to some visitors. |

Assumtions of the historians show that the Hittites were
the first inhabitants of the town around second millenium B.C. |
|
After that some Turkish tribes settled down in Kaymakli,
such as Selcuhukids. How ever there are no remains left by
Selchukids. |
|
When the region of Cappadocia was in the sovereignity of
the Ottomans and after the General Ibrahim Pasha had become son in
low of the Place, he served a lot for Kaymakli. One of the
inhabitant of Kaymaklı
named Hacı Abdullah Aga become cheif cook for the Ottoman place in
the period. The period between the years of 1718-1730 is called
‘Tulip Period’ in the history of Ottomans. The authorities in
the period planted many tulips everywhere, and set tulip gardens in
istanbul. |

After the architects of the time had built Kursunlu Camii
(Kursunlu Mosque) in Nevşehir, the stones left from it
were brought to Kaymakli and they built another Mosque
here which had the same name (Kurşunlu Camii) .. in
1732. |

In the courtyard of the Kurşunlu Camii in Kaymaklı
there was small school for the teenagers. It was
destroyed and callapse down by natural factors sixtyfive
years ego. They used a kind of hard and resistant stone
againts weather conditions to built this mosque. In most
of the oldest houses belonging to greeks this type of
stone was used. Local name of this stone is Kepez. |

Until the foundation of modern Turkish Republic in 1923
by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Turkish society and greek
society live together in peace and in harmony. |

After the exchange of greeks and Turkish people with a
treat ment by Atatürk and Venizelos, some Turkish people turned
back to Turkey from Greece and the greeks went to greece. So, for
over seventy years we have some Turkish origined emigrants in ower
town, as a minority. |

The town was surrounded by Nevsehir from the north, Mazi
and Guneyce from the east, Ozluce from west and Derinkuyu from the
south. The town was located on the Nevsehir-Nigde-Adana high road.
Kaymakli consist of the squares named Camiikebir, Hatiboglu,
Bekiraga. Town is 1350 meters high from sea level. The popilation is
6357. |
| Two of the old volcanes, Hasan and Erciyes mountains can
be seen from the this town. |

The land scape is mastly plateu and the sail is very
fertile. People grow many kinds of friuts and vegetables. Numbe one
product is patato and wheat. There is irrigation system with
underground water by
electricity pumps. |
